Guy, bad English, said problems with my Windows computer. Someone is stealing my SSN. Request I turn on computer and click the Windows button. Hung up. He called back. Answered and didn't say anything. He finally disconnected.
people with Indian accent constantly calling telling me they need to fix my windows computer. Sometimes different phone # but same scam. I told them we sold the computer, and reported them to the do not call registry and federal trade commission and to stop calling.
The problem you're experiencing is that your phone number is on a sell sheet. Scammers compile lists of phone numbers. A list of working phone numbers can be worth $5 to $7 U.S. Right now, your number is being bought & sold here-and-there. This doesn't apply to you, but that's why we tell people to never call these numbers back. All you're doing is verifying the information. The scammer didn't scam you, but they get something anyway. The fact that your number can now be sold as 'good'.
