As Slim said, donating to one puts your name on a "sucker list", and before you know it, you'll be getting calls from charities you never knew existed--all shady ones at that. When I was taking unknown calls, I was hit by ridiculous ones like Disabled Firefighter, Police, Sheriff, drunk driving, and mentally impaired to name a few.
