Stop answering unfamiliar callers. Here is why:
When you get repeated calls from unknown numbers they are hoping you answer. One reason is they log the time of day a person is available at your number to answer the phone. They may keep test-calling to find other times of day you answer your phone. THESE CALLS ARE OFTEN THE ONES WHERE NOBODY IS AT THE OTHER END. IT IS A COMPUTER CALLING AND RECORDING YOUR NUMBER, TIME OF DAY, ETC. This is valuable information to other scammers as they now know exactly what time to call you! STOP ANSWERING THESE CALLS!
LET THE ANSWERING MACHINE OR VOICE MAIL TAKE THE CALL! At your leisure you can listen to the call. If it is important you can call them back. THIS IS RARELY THE CASE.
I have had the same phone number since August of 2000. At one time I was on dozens of caller lists and received numerous calls every day. It took a while to make them go away by not answering their calls. Now I get one or two calls a week from these unknown numbers.
They are giving up on me! Eventually they will give up on you, too as long as you continue to NEVER ANSWER A CALL FROM AN UNFAMILIAR NUMBER.

These callers that leave no message and call repeatedly, here is what is going on:
They call to see if anyone answers. If you answer then they make note of the time of day someone is available to answer the phone at that number. They keep calling to get a much better view as to when someone will answer.
This is valuable information to scammers, telemarketers, etc as they can better use their resources to call only people that have a high probability of answering the phone.
Want this to stop? DO NOT ANSWER CALLS FROM UNFAMILIAR NUMBERS!
