Last week I received a letter from a company who indicated they were contracted by VA to do a VA women's health survey. Last night I received a voicemail (I don't answer unknown calls) from someone from that company. The caller (based on thick accent) was most likely from an offshore company. The caller left a message for me to call back. I called and was invited to participate in a survey and "win" a $100 gift card. Scam? I hung up and called that number again just to make sure, and the number was disconnected.
I got a call from them and they asked for a name I haven't used in 15 years. Odd. Didn't immediately identify themselves and then stated they were from a research place doing surveys on behalf of the VA. Seems fishy.
I just missed a call from this number, but I had received a letter from the VA indicating I had been selected to participate in a survey, so I don't think this is actually fishy. I believe it is legitimate.
I got a call asking for me by my maiden name. I haven't used that name in 20 years. She said she was from the department of VA. She said I might be eligible for VA benefits. I said no I wasn't. Totally strange.
This is actually a valid call. The VA is reaching out to female veterans who have never used VA medical services. They sent a letter a couple of weeks ago saying they would be calling. If the veteran hasn't been in touch with the VA since their discharge, then it is likely that the VA will be using their maiden name.
