This is a legitimate number with Citi Fraud dept. If you don't have an account with Citi then it's probably someone else trying to open a credit line in your name. It is always good practice to call the CS# on the back of your card just to be on the safe side.
Tonight I received a call from Citi Fraud unit. They left a message for me to call back regarding verifying a charge just made. I called back and confirmed the charge. When she called me back again to confirm our conversation, the caller ID had Citi and the 740-834-4000 number. I then checked my Citi credit card on line to make sure there weren't any bogus charges. I will be checking my on-line statement often.
Received few calls from 740-834-4000 number. The automated system was requesting to confirm already declined credit card transaction on my Citi credit card. I ignored the calls from 740-834-4000. Few hours later I got a call from 845 -470-0774 from service representative of "Windows operation center". The person mumbled his name then say " We are getting errors from you computer" . You are using Windows operation system do you? .
I asked him which version of Windows do I use, according to they records.
The person on the other end of line hung up immediately.
According to my phone service provider, phone number 845-470-0774 is out of service.
The situation pretty much looks like credit card fishing scheme.
I just got a phone call from this number stating that someone is using my husband's name and applying for a best buy credit card in Ky (we are in Ohio). They asked me to call another number to verify and that we could call our local best buy to confirm. We did not call the other number but called Best buy directly. Someone is trying to charge 4,600 to an new acct in our names. This is legit, however, I would call the company directly and not give information over the phone.
