... again, multiple nuisance calls from this number which has been calling enough that I now recognize it. Research points to a Locksmith Business land line in Encinitas, CA, ... no reason in the world why a locksmith would be spamming multiple numbers, multiple times with people they had not done business with. Still its confirmation that the call is junk spam.
DO NOT PICK UP! Unfortunately I did pick up and they explained that I had a balance that I needed to pay. The lady talked really fast but when she said San Diego I asked if the balance I owe was from a newspaper subscription I had signed up for because I knew after the first couple of months I would have to renew my subscription and she said yes. I told her I would pay the balance and cancel my subscription. I gave her my card info and she gave me a number for "customer service" who in fact wasn't customer service but Wells Fargo out in Michigan. I called the "newspaper" number again and I kept getting the dial tone. Eventually it started to say that the number that I m calling is no longer available and as I sat there thinking it dawned on me that my newspaper subscription wasn't in San Diego but Oceanside and she just hipper me for money. I immediately called my bank and had them cancel my card and issue me a new one. Luckily the card was cancelled before they made the charge. I should have been more cautious.
received 5 calls from this number, answered one and got static with a man's voice in background. Hung up. Blocked calls. Received two more in succession today. All say Encinitas, CA
Call center noise in background. Caller asked if I wanted to purchase a subscription to the San Diego Union Tribune newspaper. Then he asked if he had reached a business. I said that he had indeed reached a business. He asked if I was the person in charge of subscriptions. I told him we don't sign up for any subscriptions here. He said thank you and hung up.
From what I recall, these sellers display a local phone number on the call display and offer you a newspaper subscription based on your telephone area code.
The subscriptions are very cheap and I've purchased one for myself at home in the past, and it's worked out well. What I typically do is ask them to mail an invoice, and I get a money order from 7-11 to pay it with, and I mail it in. That way I don't give them any financial information.
