Do not give them one red cent until and if they follow the letter of the law. You obviously don't know what your rights are or how to deal with debt collectors, so this is where to start to learn how not to be a victim of this type of crime. First, since they talked to you they must now do this:
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
I doubt they will send that letter, but if they do, then you must do this:
You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation, cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (think of it as the best $6.47 you ever invested). Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it. Make a notion of that fact at the bottom of the letter. You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to. Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment. If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it. Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front): http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

Read up on your rights here and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Received a call from this number at 7:58pm. Stated that a complaint had been filed and they needed a response to the complaint. And then they cited some affidavit number. They identified themselves as premium processing services.
After doing some research I have found that this number is nothing more then a phishing scam. They repeat the number in the message left, but when you try to call back it says it's disconnected.
Pretty sure anything with an affidavit number would have to legally be done through the mail or in person.
received a call at my place of employment stating that a complaint has been filed and they needed a response to the complaint. Gave an affidavit number.
Received a call from this number and was told it was Rita Allen from J Williams Law Firm. And that they were going to serve me with papers for a breach of contract. Of course it scared me so I gave them my credit card number before realizing it was a scam.
Did you know it is illegal to claim to be a law firm if they are not licensed?? If they call again, ask for the license number & where they are licensed to practice. In doubt you will get that information - if they refuse you know they are scammers.
