The IRS issues fraud alerts about calls of this type. Here is the text of the voice message:
"Official final notice from United States Treasury. The nature and purpose of this call is to inform you that we have received a legal petition notice concerning a tax fraud against you still before the matter goes to federal claims court house or before you get arrested. Please call us immediately on our hotline division number that is 760-730-6969 please make sure you call us back as soon as possible."
Received voice mail stating that there was a formal petition lodged against me
When I called the number I spoke to a Bryan Miller employee id 10078 says the company name is Sub-division Revenue Office of the United States with the Treasury Department. He did not even give me the proper address in which I live and would not tell me what the call was in regards to. He was trying to get information from me about how I filed my 2014/15 taxes what method I used. I told him since he claims to work for the treasury department he should have all of that information in front of him. He then told me that since I was unwilling to cooperate that I will be served within 45 minutes with legal documentation. (Not sure how he is going to pull that one off with the wrong address.) I have also lodged a complaint at https://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml in addition to calling actual IRS number.
