I got an email response to a craigslist ad I posted. they wanted me to work for them, printing checks. Strangely, they tried to actually hire me and get all of my information through text message. This was very strange.
Found me across the country on KSL/Craigslist- Wanted to send me a certified check for a couch for me to ship it to Georgia from Utah. Very strange correspondance-- requesting a lot of information.
Every time I post something for sale on KSL.com, I get these texts/emails from people wanting to pay by money order/cashiers check and have their "shipper" pick up the items. It is a total scam, but I can't figure out why. As soon as you give them your name, address and phone number, you don't hear from them again. They are fishing for your personal information, but it's really not anything they can't get off the internet if they dig hard enough. So I don't really understand. A few times that I have had this happen, it was very noticeable that they weren't from the USA. The emails were in broken English and clearly they were emailing from another country. Other people have made similar posts about this as well. One time I have them my address and name (easily found on internet), but not my phone number. They kept emailing for it and stopped when I would not give it to them. I haven't had any identity theft of illegal attempts at my financial accounts from the only time I fell for this scam. Maybe I'm just lucky. I think this is one of those instances that if it sounds too good to be true, it really is.
