You've been defrauded by one of the belly-crawling outfits that operate out of the Atlanta metro area. They've been quiet lately because of some recent intense enforcement action by the FTC & the local officials. They're obviously becoming more desperate. There were about a dozen major operators behind the larger of these outfits. Two of them have taken huge falls. The rest laid low for a while but, being the greedy scum that they are, they couldn't hold off for long. They are parasites.
There are dozens of these fraud shops in the Atlanta area. Most are what are known as "kitchen table" outfits. They scuttle around like cockroaches. They "work" from strip mall storefronts, rented apartments & leased homes. They invariably use box numbers at UPS stores for addresses. They will never provide an actual, physical address. They will only "be able" to accept payment by credit card, pre-paid card or wire. They'll have a variety of reasons as to why this is so. All them being pure BS.
Please Google the FDCPA. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. It's not hard to understand. Once you've done this, and have become familiar with the laws governing the lawful collection of debt, you will be immune from being scammed by the scum out there. You will know that a debt collector is required to provide a notice of validation, by mail, to any supposed debtor within 5 business days and/or upon request. You will know that a debt collector is required to provide a supposed debtor with an actual, physical address. There is a lot more to learn, but none of it is hard to do. An educated consumer is a fraudulent debt collectors worst enemy.
Please file complaints to the FTC about this outfit. You can do so through their website. Take the time to write a concise account of your dealings with this outfit & mail it to the GA. State Attorney Generals offices. You can Google their contact information & can also file a complaint there as well. Be sure to mail that complaint to them though. Letters receive more attention & the AG has already proven that when the scammers in the ATL. area get too "feisty", his people will step in. Particularly when the scammers can be found & if they have more than two nickels to rub together. The scammers live in a world where the only thing that counts is money. Sadly, our overwhelmed government officials are forced to live in the same world. If the scam operator is big enough, he'll meet some government officials that are far more nasty than he is.
