I received a strange and garbled message from allstate insurance. I do not have insurance with them. It said something about risk assessment. I have no idea what they are talking about. It is a phishing phone call and a scam. do not call them or talk to them. they are trying to steal you identity. When I dailed it back from a different phone it wasn't even all state. I couldn't understand what they said
Initially, I received two phone calls, where the caller was listed as Allstate insurance in Georgia. There was no message, and I am not an Allstate customer, so I called the number to see why I had been called and, if solely for marketing purposes, to request removal of my name from the company database, because I am in Maryland and use insurance providers here.
The first time, the phone was answered by a woman who did not use the company name, but merely said that I should hold on while she finished another matter and referred me to someone who could help me. I was then disconnected, possibly accidentally or possibly on purpose.
Thinking that the disconnect may have been accidental, I called back. This time, the person answered the phone with something like, "Dispute Resolution Service". It was definitely the same woman. I told her that I had the wrong number and got off the phone. I looked up Allstate in Atlanta, and did not see a number that matched this one, so I thought that some scammers might have used Allstate's name fraudulently.
My assumption seems to have been correct, as I received a call today from this same number, with the caller listed as "Legal Processing". I have no lawsuits against me, nor any likelihood of one being initiated against me, so I didn't call back. I get scammer calls regularly, and am sick and tired of them. They love to target senior citizens like me, as well as low-income people and immigrants, all of whom they regard as "easy marks", and I'd like to see them stopped.
This particular scammer should be charged on two counts -- one, on trying to defraud people by telling them that there is a legal case against them that they should settle by sending money, and the other by using a Caller ID with the name of a respectable business. While it is not illegal to remove your name from your Caller ID, it IS illegal to use a false name and to do so for the purpose of defrauding people.
Definately a scam, woman answered the phone by the name Michelle, when I told her I had no idea who the company was she claims had a case against me she got nasty and then continued her speech. Turning the number into the FBI.
