ACLJ was founded by Pat Robertson, not a good start. It delegates calling/soliciting to agencies that are not Christian. They call from many different phone numbers from all over the country, EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK. YES, YOU READ THAT CORRECTLY. I HAVE BEEN BOTHERED EVEN ON SUNDAY, so as ACLJ's agents are NOT Christians and by proxy sin on ACLJ's behalf, ACLJ is dripping with their bloodstains. I am a lawyer but I am convinced more than ever that the ACLJ does not represent my interests as even winning these wars, but in the way it wages them, including these unwanted solicitations every stinking day of the week, having to have my cell phone ring constantly (sometimes it bypasses the 2 spam blocker apps I use), has nothing to do with winning souls for Christ; in fact, it hardens the hearts of the enemy and serve's Satan's goals. I have read postings from other spam reporting sites of the alleged immense wealth that Jay Sekulow has acquired from these solicitations, the ACLJ gets only 1 star out of 4 in Charity Nav page https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=12586 (and someone is paid a salary of $235K out of $875K donated to the DC version), but in 2014 the ACLJ raked in $17.5M overall according to Ballotopedia https://ballotpedia.org/American_Center_for_Law_and_Justice. Others have written, this from 2005,
"But there is another side to Jay Sekulow, one that, until now, has been obscured from the public. It is the Jay Sekulow who, through the ACLJ and a string of interconnected nonprofit and for-profit entities, has built a financial empire that generates millions of dollars a year and supports a lavish lifestyle -- complete with multiple homes, chauffeur-driven cars, and a private jet that he once used to ferry Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
"That less-known side of Sekulow was revealed in several interviews with former associates of his and in hundreds of pages of court and tax documents reviewed by Legal Times. Critics say Sekulow's lifestyle is at odds with his role as the head of a charitable organization that solicits small donations for legal work in God's name.
"For example, in 2001 one of Sekulow's nonprofit organizations paid a total of $2,374,833 to purchase two homes used primarily by Sekulow and his wife. The same nonprofit also subsidized a third home he uses in North Carolina.
"At various times in recent years, Sekulow's wife, brother, sister-in-law, and two sons have been on the boards or payrolls of organizations under his control or have received generous payments as contractors. Sekulow's brother Gary is the chief financial officer of both nonprofit organizations that fund his activities, a fact that detractors say diminishes accountability for his spending." https://www.rutherford.org/publications_resou ... _of_jay_sekulow.
In 2013, the following was written by wallstreetonparade.com:
"Jay Sekulow will never be accused of a lack of audacity. The man who has orchestrated and pumped the “scandal” that the IRS was unfairly targeting nonprofits tied to the Tea Party, is the same man who filed 27 applications with the IRS in recent years seeking tax-exempt status for Tea Party and related groups. He’s also the man who together with family and business interests have reaped at least $40 million since 1998 from a tangled web of IRS approved nonprofits with eye-popping conflicts of interest.
"As first reported by Bob Smietana in 2011 in USA Today, just two of Jay Sekulow-related nonprofits, American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) and Christian Advocates Serving Evangelism, Inc. (CASE) “have paid out more than $33 million to members of Sekulow’s family and businesses they own or co-own, according to the charities’ federal tax returns.” Smietana’s research included returns filed since 1998.
"That $33 million has grown to at least $40 million today. The 2011 tax return for CASE, publicly available at GuideStar.org, shows that in just the two-year period of 2010 and 2011, the nonprofit took in over $81 million. The charity is structured as a 501(c)(3), meaning that both its income is tax exempt and donations made to it are tax deductible – a big tax subsidy from the U.S. taxpayer.
"Jay Sekulow is the President of CASE and his family fills four of the five slots on the Board of Directors. His wife, Pam, is the Secretary; his two sons, Jordan and Logan, are Directors; his brother, Gary, is the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer.
"According to a 2011 analysis by the American Bar Association Journal, using research from Bob Smietana, since 1998 CASE and the ACLJ have paid out the following: (These sums exclude payments in 2011 and 2012 which were not then available to the ABA Journal.)
"$15.4 million to the Constitutional Litigation and Advocacy Group, a law firm co-owned by Jay Sekulow.
$5.7 million to Gary Sekulow, Jay Sekulow’s brother.
$1.6 million to Pam Sekulow, Jay Sekulow’s wife.
$2.74 million in private jet lease payments to companies owned by Jay Sekulow and his sister-in-law, Kim Sekulow. The companies also earned $2.89 million for space rental, media production and administrative work."
"One month after stepping down as U.S. Attorney General in 2005, John Ashcroft accepted a part-time teaching position at Regent University, a Christian institution founded by Robertson, who is currently Chancellor and Executive Chairman at the University. Ashcroft has remained at Regent University, currently serving as Distinguished Professor of Law and Government. Sekulow is on the Board of Regent as well as a member of the Regent Law faculty.
"In 2005, the same year that Ashcroft stepped down from the Department of Justice and accepted a faculty position at Regent, a nonprofit was formed by Sekulow called the Law and Justice Institute. Under its program description the following year, it stated: “Contract to provide the services of distinguished individuals to participate in educational activities related to the organizations exempt purposes: Regent University School of Law – Distinguished Professor of Law and Government.” That title is the one carried by John Ashcroft.
"From 2006 through the most recently available tax return for 2011, the Law and Justice Institute has paid a total of $2,381,667 to a business called Educational Resources Associates, LLC listed at a residential address in Washington, D.C. Public records show the property was formerly owned by a John and Janet Ashcroft, the name of the former U.S. Attorney General and his wife. Despite the Ashcrofts selling the home in 2005, the tax returns for the Law and Justice Institute through 2011 still carry the same address for Educational Resources Associates, LLC.
"In the last two years, Educational Resources Associates has taken a big pay cut from $450,000 annually to under $300,000; but an additional business has been added as a recipient of funds from the Law and Justice Institute – Advocacy Services, Inc. with an address of 977 Centerville Turnpike, Virginia Beach, Virginia. That’s the address for Pat Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting Network. Tax returns for 2010 and 2011 show a total of $1 million being paid to the business. Jay Sekulow continues to be listed on the tax returns as the “principal officer” of the Law and Justice Institute.
The Law and Justice Institute is a nonprofit organization receiving a taxpayer subsidy. John Ashcroft was the former highest ranking law enforcement agent in the U.S. The public has a right to transparency with this organization, its reason for existing and the gritty details of its money flows."
As I got another call that bypassed my spamblockers again, I don't think I have any other option to end the harassment but to file a lawsuit against it and perhaps some sort of action against the Fed agencies who do nothing despite the complaints. In the IRS's hunt for money, this 501(c)(3) fraud can yield quite a tax haul, as fraud is not subject to a statute of limitations. But I speculate that Sekulows and their entities may be donating to Republican lawmakers....
This caller is a solicitor for ACLJ, a good organization. However I have been ignoring their call because they want a donation which I cannot afford. This woman is very Rude and Sarcastic when I answered, and keeps calling usually around 8:00 in the morning.
I am reporting it as a harassment call.
I keep getting calls from this number every day usually between 8.00 A.M and 10.00 A.M I don't answer calls from numbers I do not recognize. They never leave a message
I have received calls every day from this number. Finally was able to pick up when they called, it's a "law center" and they are looking to accept donations against planned parenthood. I asked to be removed from their call list as they are spreading propaganda.
