these places never operate under their REAL name, legal mediation is a made up name and this is a bogus number with a scrambler, they TRY and collect, old, charged off accounts they buy on the cheap and try to scare people into paying an old debt.
I received a call from someone saying they were a legal investigation team. That I had written a bad check (did not say to whom the check was written or the date) but that if I didn't pay them $910, I would be prosecuted in my county. They did say that it was a payday loan which I have never taken out. She said "good luck in court". I'm sure trying to intimidate me.
Don't answer at all, they have one less person they can threaten. They throw anything they can think of that might frighten you into paying a bogus debt.
Now with this new number, the caller is Angela Jones with the department of financial affairs. This woman has used 5 names so far from different so called companies. They are a scam using a Level 3 phone company VioL which uses spoof numbers to keep you from identifying them. Contact your state attorney, Georgia's attorney generals office for consumer affairs and the consumer protection agency fraud division in Washington DC. These predators won't stop until they are caught.
This 770 number has been calling me for the past two weeks. So finally I called back, the one individual confirmed my last name and then hung up the phone. Then I called back and spoke to a woman who said I had a defaulted pay day loan, but couldn't tell me the exact year and place, etc. Said that if I don't do a OCR for $610 (Out of court restitution) they would file 2 class C felonies with the county or I need to seek a criminal lawyer. Reading all your testimonials just confirms that this is some sort of scam.
