A call from Deborah Jones with the 'Legal Fraud {hah!} Division' - stated 'Your name (not given) is involved in a fraudulent financial matter, please call (or have your attorney call) immediately'...Repeating the number. Tired of these harassing people!!! Try getting a REAL job! For goodness sake!
This is (one of many) criminal extortion scams that have been going on for years. Many are operating overseas and out of the reach of US law enforcement, while others are operating within the confines of prison cells here in the US, using contraband cell phones. Others are using VOIP. Either way, they are able to disguise their identities and locations, making them next to impossible to prosecute. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting victims' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
I started getting calls from Longmont, CO, then Denver, CO now Georgia. I answered one time and chatted with the person. I said I didn't feel comfortable providing payment until I reviewed the billing and I asked them to mail me a statement. They told me they mailed me it 3x (which I never received) and that they were not legally obligated to mail it again. I said well I'm not paying anything until I see a real bill and then they hung up on me.
I received several phone calls from this number. I researched it and found it to be spam/scam. I called it back and stated, " I've been in contact with you guys all morning. I've come to find out that this number is a scam company and my wife who is a paralegal ( she really is ), would love to speak with you could you please hold on moment?" They hung up on me. I tried to call back several ( 9 ) times, and was hung up on each time. Definitely a scam. I haven't heard back from them.
