Caller had name and claimed to be from my mortgage company but had almost no information about the loan. Asked if I wanted to talk to one of their brokers about options to refinance my mortgage, but I'm already doing that with my mortgage company. He responded that his system didn't have that information and then asked if I'd like to be transferred to the guy I'm working with at their company, but he had just told me that his system was not updated with that info.
Definitely fishy, Make certain they are who they claim to be before providing ANY information.
Confirmation of your first and last name to be used for resale. Now he's got a name to go along with your number, which means unknown callers will already know that ahead of time.

We received a call today from this number. It was a local number and the ID said it was our mortgage company. Eric knew our names, account number and our interest rate. He put me through to Jasmine who said she could take an application over the phone to refinance our mortgage. When I asked what the rate would be and what the closing costs would be she said that she didn't know. She would submit the application and we would be notified. I told her no and then called our mortgage company who said they never call people about refinancing--customers always call them to ask about refinancing. When I explained what happened I was put on hold. When the agent came back she said that only customers whose accounts were flagged for regular postal mailings about refinancing had been receiving these calls. Most of the customers were seniors! She tried calling the phone number I gave her and it was a phony number. Since social security numbers are not made available in the system area these mailings are made from, the people making these bogus calls are trying to get social security information. People who receive these calls should contact their mortgage companies right away. Let them know what happened and they can lock your account and add additional security info. The agent we talked with is checking into a possible hacking of the accounts that receive the mailings. She said customers who are not flagged for mailings have not received these scam calls. She removed our account from future mailings.
