Call today from 773-312-4021 from a man with a heavy accent who said his name was "Jason Anderson," and that he was calling from the investigations and audit department at the IRS. He claimed I've been sued by the IRS for tax fraud. He transferred me to his supervisor, who identified herself as "Officer Kristen Johnson." That these people manage to get away with this and frighten people who may not know better is awful.
Yes they are trying to scam you. The IRS will ALWAYS provide you written notice of any legal action against you. Do not give the callers money or information. From IRS.gov: Note that the IRS will never: 1) call to demand immediate payment, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill; 2) demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe; 3) require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card; 4) ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone; or 5) threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.
I received the following message from this number a few minutes ago:
"The number for you to reach us is 773-312-4021. As there is a legal notice filed against you for the tax evasion and tax fraud and before this case gets register in the court house and before you get arrested. If you need any information or if you have any questions kindly call our headquarters at 773-312-4021. Thank you"
The person had a very heavy accent. This is definitely a scam.
2 calls from this fraudulent outfit. IRS Lawsuit, and wanted to know my attorneys name.
The first was a women with an Indian accent. She claimed i was being sued by the IRS, and wanted my Attorney's name, I told her the name of my attorney was Mike Hunt, and he was affiliated with the I.M Ashister Attorneys at law. I told her she was a fraud, she hung up.
The second one was from a man with an Indian accent, who claimed to be an IRS Agent. He said I was being sued by the IRS. He wanted my Attorneys name. I said my attorney was Dick Les, and that he was probably related to him. When I brought up the word "Fraud", he hung up.
Similarly to others, we keep getting automated calls suggesting the IRS are investigating us for tax evasion. The individual has an Indian type accent. This is just a con, but its getting ridiculous how many times they are calling our number & it needs to stop.
