Called and said I was approved for a loan. Said all I needed was to load $100 onto a prepaid card and they would Western Union me a $1500 loan with a very low interest rate. I was in real desperate need of cash when I received the call so against my better judgement I went ahead and loaded a greendot card and sent it over the phone. After the first one then they needed another to activate the western union, then one for collateral, then one for insurance. All in all I sent nearly $900 and then was turned down for the loan. When trying to receive a refund for all the cards that were sent, I was told I needed to send yet another one to activate my money gram refund because western union was down. I told him I had no more cash because of him so they tried to deposit a check in my savings account because my checking was overdrawn now but the check was denied through deposit anywhere. When I called my bank they said it was denied because it was just a blank sheet of paper that they took a picture of. Finally, I was told they could send my funds to my capital one card. After sending an amount that was $300 less than needed, they wanted me to go to a bank and do an emergency cash advance and money gram it to them to receive my full refund. I did do the emergency cash advance and then immediately called and reported my card stolen and changed all my bank information. Now I'm be left voice mails threatening to red flag my ssn and they will charge my accounts the $600 they sent me even tho I'm the one still $300 short. The first person I spoke to was named Chris, then Martin, then Kevin but they all had the same voice with a Hindii accent and would never put someone else on the phone. Be very careful with them they say they are rated as one of the top loan providers in the country but I find it hard to believe.
It is against federal law to offer a line of credit or loan over the phone, but require an up front payment.
From:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0078-advance-fee-loans
"A loan that is offered by phone. It is illegal for companies doing business by phone in the U.S. to promise you a loan or credit card and ask you to pay for it before they deliver."
As all such offers are 100% illegal, they are all offered by scammers.
Unfortunately, you learned the hard way.
Also, the reason they ask for the funds via Western Union or Green Dot type prepaid money cards is that it is not possible for you to recover your money sent and it is not traceable.
