Interesting that this number has apparently been used for various scams.
I answered a call just now and it sounded like a legitimate survey concerning my general attitudes toward President and Congress. Then (in some detail) my attitudes toward treatment of and possible legislation regarding wild horses and burrows on federal lands. Last, general info about my age, sex, etc. Nothing about money or anything else that set off alarms. If I had to guess, I'd say they're doing research for our local congressional representatives.
Scam phone call from man saying I had been selected to receive a $8500 grant from the US government. He claimed to be working for the US Department of Treasury.
Apparently, according to a quick Google search, this is from a company called MCI Metro Access Transmission. They're pretending to be employed in some capacity with the U.S. Department of Treasury, claiming that you can receive up to $8,000 in federal grants.
Obviously, this is a scam. No Government agency that I'm aware of would communicate via over the phone.
