Got the famous call today. I let her go on and on about security system. Then I asked her how that would work because I live in a tent in a campground. She got so frustrated and hung up on me. I don't think I'll get more of these calls from the security system scams.
I picked up the phone because it had a 773 area Chicago number which is where I am from. I thought it was the roofing contractors who will be working on my elderly mom's garage roof. Or maybe her old friend or the doctor's office. It turns out to be a telemarketing scam artist. A human woman with a foreign accent, probably from India, called me by my last name and said that their records indicate that for the past 3 years I was using a home security alert system they manufacture. Confused, I told her "Home security alert system? I don't have a home security alert system in my house." She then made some background noise and some unintelligible garbled excuse and hung up. After which I quickly added her number to our Sentry Call Blocker list. The number probably is a spoof number to make it look like it was from Chicago so I can pick up the phone.
This was such an annoying call. Woman from a call center (heavy accent so maybe international) would not identify herself but kept asking for my name. No ma'am, you called ME so I make the rules here. She said that she's with General Electric (this part took forever to get from her) and that I have had an alarm system with them for the past 3 years (not true). I told her to remove me from her calling list and to confirm - she then proceeded to tell me about their special promotions. This number is officially blocked. How do I make all these calls stop?!
Lady with heavy accent said I had alarm system for 3 years and wanted to know if I was the owner. Told her I didn't have any alarm system (I shouldn't have but she caught me off guard!) told her to take me off the list and don't call again. Then I hung up before she could say anymore. Ugh!
I also got a call from this number. A woman with a thick accent told me that she was from my alarm system company. I asked which company that was? She said, "What, you don't have an alarm system?" I told her that only did I have one, it was a pretty good one, and that I used it all the time, which is true. She then told me that since i had it for three years, it was time to update it. I told her that I hadn't had it for three years (also true - I replaced my old system two years ago), at which point she said "Are you sure you have one with a control panel in your house?" I told her that if she were really from my home security company, she would know what I have and when I got it, and that since I didn't believe she was from the security company I used, I was going to hang up. Which I did.
