I would say yes. The fake check/Craigslist scam has been around for a while. What they hope is one of two things:
(a) The check will appear to clear your bank in 2-3 days. You ship the item & then the check bounces in 4-6 weeks. Usually the check is good, but the transit numbers at the bottom are fake.
(b) The check will be for more that you asked for. They want you to use a cash wire transfer service (Western Union, etc.) to send money to their 'shipper', who'll be picking the item up. See (a)
I'm selling some furniture in Craightlist and they send you a text under this number asking you for your address and other information and I think it is a scam since they do not answer the phone and it goes to a recording services...so be carefull with them
I posted some items on craigslist and this person has contacted me through text for 2 days saying they wish to buy the item, It seems strange because they only want to pay with a check , when I offer alternatives for them to be able to get cash and pay me the response is they can only use a check.... Very Strange. I told them I would meet with them and pick up the check and once it clears the bank I would release the item but haven't heard anything back from them. Are they Scam artist .

Count me in as someone who received a scam call from this number. This is one of five I've received. All similar, wanting to purchase my bedroom set with a check.
