I am confident that the purpose of this call was a scam....

Here's why---

I have received at least 5 calls but most likely the exact number is much closer to a dozen... So far:

All callers have been from men who all claim they work for Microsoft...

All callers claim my computer is sending Critical Error Messages to Microsoft...

All callers speak with an accent that I believe to be European.

All of the calls ended with a dial tone, never a "thank you".

I called Microsoft about them monitoring our personal computers. I explained to them that I wasn't calling because I thought they had the time to take on a task that would be monumental in scope considering the number of Microsoft operating systems in use globally. The person I was talking with laughed and agreed that it would not be something they would spend time attempting to pursue... They cautioned regarding scammers and how little it takes for them to gather enough data to steal our identity.

When I found this website I decided that if the little info I have could even help one person to keep their personal info private, it was definitely worth my time to submit.

This particular call I received 9:10 am PST, June 08, 2017 from (781)133-8800

The caller said he was from Microsoft, he had a foreign accent that I wasn't familiar with. He began by telling me it was crucial he speak to me as beginning last night my computer has been sending them critical error messages. Without me inquiring about money or expressing any financial concerns, he explained that I didn't need to pay them any money because I had already paid them. He told me he only needed some info from my computer. Then without any hesitation he said, "you are in front of your computer?"

Finally I was able to ask who he believed he was calling. He gave me a name I had never heard before. I said, "clearly you have reached the wrong person and you have the wrong telephone number."

He was really good and quite quick with his script because he immediately said...

(The scam continues...)

Him: "See... I told you that... I said your computer is sending error messages, it's all messed up... that's why I called you. Are you at your computer now? I need you to give me information from it. Are you in front of it? Is it on now?"

Me: "I'm confused, what computer?"

Him: "Your computer."

Me: "I don't have a computer."

He seemed surprised and repeated my words, Him:"You don't have a computer???"

Me: "No."

Immediately the line went to a dial tone.
