WHO IS THIS? How am *I* the first one to get a call from this number????
Caller ID said "--------------------------" and just displayed the number, which I did not recognize. This is the SECOND Call from a number in this area of Massachusetts AND WE DO NOT KNOW ANYONE THERE.
They were not courteous enough to ID themselves, or LEAVE A MESSAGE.
We DO NOT answer calls from numbers we do not know'; DO NOT return such calls, AND will be turning them into the DNC List for harrassing us at dinnertime.
You're the first but not the only one.......I just received a call from same number. Caller ID displayed "Out of Area".
I usually add these numbers to my Online Call Block List provided by my Phone service.
This only works about half the time because many of these businesses have multiple phone numbers to use to call you again.
I stopped reporting unwanted callers to National Do Not Call because every telemarketing business knows how to take advantage of DNC's legal loopholes called "Exemptions".
For example the DNC Law allows Charities to call you.
Therefore, telemarketers may call you and claim to be a Charity service.....and in order to to meet their legal obligation they may ask you to donate to a familiar charity just before they offer to sell you ocean-view property in Kansas.
Here's link to DNC Exemptions List. The list is actually published by a marketing consulting service that advises marketing businesses on methods for calling you that comply with DNC Exemptions. Capitalism always finds a way!
Check it out. You'll be amazed by the number of Exemptions It has become so ridiculious that State governments are passing their own local verions of DNC Laws which cannot be enforced if the caller is calling from another state.
What needs to be done is our elected officials need to pass a more stringent law without loopholes and make sure the law is enforced.......but that'll never happen because our Political system is held hostage by very wealthy, powerful Corporate Lobbyists. It was Corporate Lobbyists who convinced Congress to include Exemptions in the DNC Law in the first place!
The reality is we're probably stuck with this problem for a while.
Thanks for your comments. I'm no 'novice' to these calls, I've been getting them since AT LEAST 2004, BUT I always get a little freaked out when I seem to be the first complaining about a particular number.

These calls MIGHT have something to do with the political campaigns: surveys of people's voting tendancies. I will NOT answer these questions; not going to tell STRANGERS how/why I'm going to vote!!!
Just got ANOTHER call from this number, TODAY. AGAIN, NO NAME, NO MESSAGE. SCUMBAGS.
Problem is I'm in the process of getting Quotes from some ROOFERS and SOLAR people for a project THIS FALL, and they all have Out-of-town cells, so I never know when/if to pick up. Don't want to miss an important call. But, MOST of them have the decency to leave a message, so I'm assuming those who don't are either STUPID, RUDE/Bad Businessmen or CRIMINAL!
I got one of these calls at 5:45 and got one last week as well. I have yet to pick up, but find it so annoying! Anyone know what they say when you pick up from this number?
