Called my cell phone, on Do Not Call list for several years now. No message left. Within 2 minutes I called back from a masked line, got choppy prerecorded message saying survey has now been finished, no further information as to who these gimokes are.
These "can you hear me" calls have been blanketing Rhode Island and Massachusetts for the past few weeks and you have to be careful because they spoof numbers. I received a call that looked like it was coming from a local pizza place so I answered it and it was a woman laughing that she had just dropped her headset and asked if I could hear her. I also received a (legitimate) call and someone asked "is this <my name>?" I almost said "yes" but instead said "speaking."
If you don't know the number - don't answer the phone. The "do not call list" is useless against these calls. DNC is set up so that legitimate companies don't call people not fly-by-night scammers.
Thank you everyone who has detailed their experience with the number. I never answer it but haven't encountered the 'dropped headset' fakeout yet and during a busy day at work no doubt could accidentally fall for it without thinking! This number called before and I thought I blocked it. So disruptive and corrupt!
I received a call at 10:55 a.m. today on cell phone, did not answer it b/c I didn't recognize it, but oddly enough many of these calls to me are from Arlington, Belmont and Watertown. I have also answered calls from the giggling lady and just hang up.
