Got the same call, from the "sherrif's department" about a "complaint". told me to call 1-800-829-1831 to clear it up. Said she would put a 2 hour hold on the summons. When I said "sure, I'll play along, what's the number", she giggled and almost went off script...
HUGE scam. I've had this happen before and the people don't give up, and they will cuss at you...
I got a call from a "Mike Johnson" from this number stating there was a case against me and that there would be legal ramifications if I don't call this other number 800-829-1831 and settle the matter. Just like the previous posts, I was given a case number and told there would be a 2 hour wait. When I asked him which county this case originated from, he hedged and said he was just the guy who located the person for the other parties. I was suspicious from the start since he used my maiden name (which I haven't used in years), and he wouldn't answer any questions straight out. I figured it was either a scam or a collector for an old, discharged debt. Either way, I'll be reporting this incident wherever I can and get the word out so no one gets suckered by the fast-talking, scare tactics this "Mike" tried to pull on me.
THIS PERSON IS CALLING, HARASSING , AND CLAIMING TO BE FROM THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE. SHE WANT TO GIVE TO RECEIVE LEGAL PAPERS FOR FOR MY SISTER. BE CAREFUL. THESE PEOPLE EVEN HAVE ACCESS TO MY SISTER PERSONAL INFORMATION.
I got a call from 786-235-9483 (it appears as "open4 open4" on my caller ID). She said she was calling to see if someone would be available to receive papers from the sheriff's department for (she said my sister's name). I live on the other end of the country and have not spoken to her in a months. So I was like "Huh? What? Can you repeat that?" and the lady hung up. I called the # back and it said I had reached mailbox # 0110 or something like that and that it was full and it hung up on me. I don't know who this is, but I hope they do call em back today. I will quickly call a lawyer to sue them for harrassing me. My fiance just got a settlement check for a couple of grand when a collection company called him twice in one day last year.
