Unless this number was spoofed, this might be Readers Marketing out of Miami. I am wonder if they have any connection to Readers Digest. I say this only because my mother used to subscribe to the magazine and allowed the subscription to run out since she was no longer interested.
Ever since then, they have been sending mail trying to get her to come back. Now this phone call. At this day and age, I wouldn't put past any company that is desperate.

She said she was calling from Alaska Magazine and our subscription was about to expire. Would I like to renew by credit card for half-price? My records showed a renewal good til 2016; she speculated that the credit card may not have been charged and could I look it up? I then read her the expiration from the magazine's mailing label and she gave up. This scam to give your card number over the phone would be easy to fall into...
