Have gotten a call from this phone number before and told the person to take our phone number off his list. Just now got a phone call and the caller hung up. Caller ID says DCPBA.
This number goes to the telemarketing firm that has been contracted by the Dade County Police Benevolent Association in Miami, Florida. They call our Patient Services number several times daily although we have spoken to them and requested our number be removed from their call list. They asked for a donation initially telling me that it was tax-deductible as it was a registered nonprofit. I asked if they were a 501(c)3 registered with the IRS and they said yes. I told them that I was on the IRS website and did a search for their organization and it was not listed, and if it wasn't listed then stating that they were a 501(c) was misleading and a false statement. They told me that I was looking in the wrong place as they were registered with the state as a nonprofit. I told that I had the Division of Corporations opened in another tab and while yes, they were listed with the state but that did not make donations to them tax-deductible and telling people it did was misleading. I was hung up on at this point but it hasn't stop the calls.
Companies like this collect for non profits. They are only required to give the non profit 5% of money collected, and almost never give more than that. when you mention that to the solicitor, they almost always say "[the charity] is very happy to get all we collect for them". If you want to donate $100 to the Police Benevolent Association, or any other charity, give the $100 to the charity, not $5 through a solicitor, thus paying $95 to the telemarketer (unless you like the unsolicited calls).
