Don't bother to call them back or reply to their emails which say they are from a Capital One loan officer named Jose Sanders. This is definitely a scam because Capital One has a 1-800 # and would not call you from a 786#. The reason I knew it was a scam when I got the email is because I have an account with Capital One already so I know I haven't applied for a personal loan and know that their numbers do not start with a 786 area code. Bunch of jerks who try to steal people's hard earned money. Get a real job!!!
Called me at 4am claiming to be Capital One. Told them what time it was and told them not to call back. I called the number back later in the day from my work to find out who it was and they just answered hello. I hung up and called back an hour later. They then answered Capital One. When I began to question them they got louder wanting to know what I wanted. Middle Eastern type accent. I understand out sourcing, but come on people......WORK on your SCAM!!!!!!!!
BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!
If the call was from a legitimate source, they would (most likely) have left a message on your answering device or voicemail.
If the call was from a scammer, calling back merely did one or more of the following:
* Verified your phone number, and that it would be answered by a human.
* Possibly incurred international calling charges (some scammers are located in Jamaica [876] and other overseas locations)
* Bothered somebody not associated with the scam - scammers can spoof what you see on the Caller ID!
* If the call was from a telemarketer, your call to them could be interpreted as starting a "business relationship", so the telemarketer could legally continue to call you!
* Added your phone number to a list that is sold or shared among scammers of various types, so even more would try to call you.
Instead of calling back, either ignore the call or get a call blocker to prevent further calls from that number! (Remember, the DNC list is intended ONLY to block calls from legitimate telemarketers).
They exact same thing happened to me. They left me a voicemail saying that I was approved for q loan. I should have known it was a scam when a man with an Indain accent said his name was Peter Roger or even his manager Connor O'Brien; who sounded very similar.
