The person calling says that my computer is going to crash and is offering support.  When I call that #, there is no company name.  I feel is a very suspicious call.   Please let me know your findings.  Thanks.

This scam has been around awhile.   No one can tell what they claim is going on, not even Microsoft itself. Its lies to gain access to your computer and steal information, passwords and financial information. Not to mention they will shut off your antivirus and place who knows what on your computer.  The only persons who should be touching your computer is you, your manufacturer, Real Windows support that you have called and/or maybe a real live tech you see face to face!

Tamianth is right. Think about it, how did they know it's your computer? How did they get your phone number? What does your phone number have to do with your computer?

You can't get someone's house phone, cell phone or even a computer phone number from someone's computer. This is the best way to tell that it is in fact a scam.

Some red flags...I got the call today...Never said their name; never asked my name or knew who I was. Same thing, my pc is going to crash, they need to delete my files.  Finally gave a call back number and when I called that - they hung up on me.  Had lots of callers in the background having the same conversations.  Then finally said the call was being monitored.  Um - call recording disclosures must be done at the beginning of the call with full authentication.  Really bad scam that I fear the public with no pc skills will fall to.  Have to select prank call - no choice for scam.

I am retired, on medicare & feel robbed by not being better informed by those who are not supplying adequate ways to warn, or at least, supply a contact, who will show, those like myself. whose first experience with computers was either sci-fi or a group of room sized machines doing simple tasks.  Apple & MS are not being responsible parents by not supplying the best advice on how to chose the best known protection for PROVEN prevention or recovery.
