Received call at about 11:25 AM January 26, 2013 that came through on my cell phone as originating at 10000000000 (1 followed by ten zeros). The caller spoke with what sounded like an Indian accent, said he was calling from Microsoft, and started telling me that my computer was infected with a virus. When I responded that I have multiple computers in multiple networks (home plus multiple offices) and asked about the location of the computer he was calling about, or which number he had called to reach me (some of my calls are forwarded to my cell phone nights and weekends), he seemed confused and did not tell me which number he had called, but he did give me a call-back number: 801-618-2119, extension 673. As the call did not come during normal business hours, I concluded the call was a scam call.

Definite scam. Google "Windows Tech Support Scam" or "Microsoft Tech Support Scam" for more information. Microsoft even has information about this scam on their website. They try to get you to logon to a website like "showmypc.com" to grant them remote access to your computer to "fix" the problem. What will happen is that they will install ransomware, encrypt your files or mess up your registry then extort money from you to fix the problems caused by the "virus you had". They will also very likley install malware such as a keylooger to steal your logins and passwords, credit card information and banking information. DO NOT FOLLOW THIER DIRECTIONS! If you know what you are doing play along with them and act dumb until you are told to access the website. Then say "oh oh". When they ask what you see tell them a red flashing screen with "WARNING! Access to this site blocked by the US Computer Emergency Response Team." See how mad you can make them while wasting their time.
A call from 801-618-2119 on 2/2/2013. The person had a Indian sounding accent explaining that my software on my computer could be compromised. He stated he was calling from Microsoft and wanted to gain access to my computer. I asked him to give me his contact number and name and I would return his call at a more convent time. He indicated his name was Frank Smith calling from 801-618-2119 Ext 6782.
I have been receiving calls from a string of zeros for a few months. I finally answered one today, and the gentleman with the thick Indian accent told me he was from Microsoft, and had a very bad computer infection. I asked for a call-back number, as I was "in a meeting." Got the 801 number above, and an extension to reach "James", 673. I wish I could block these calls.
June 11, 2013, 3:25 -- we received a phone call a few minutes ago and the caller, with an Indian accent, also said he was calling on behalf of Microsoft Windows, that our computer had been hacked and could I please log on to my computer. I told him I would have to change phones to get to my pc and so could I please have contact info and call him back. He further identified himself as John Lewis of Global Infotek Solutions, calling from Marble City, Ohio, from 801-618-2119, x 673.
I did a Google search on the above # and thus found this chain of messages. I actually tried returning the call but got a busy signal and have no plans to try again. Is Microsoft aware of these folks?
