This number has been calling me at least once a week since October. Today was the second time it called me this week. It is an automated caller, with a message that I've been randomly dialed to win a free stay at a Marriott Hotel through the Marriott Rewards program. If I want to hear more, I am to press 1. If I want to be placed on a Do Not Call list, I am to press 2. The problems I have with this are, first, that my number is already on the Do Not Call Registry and I should not be getting these phone calls, and second, that I've already heard of this scam. Pressing 1 or 2 will not get you on a do not call list OR lead to you actually getting whatever is offered; it just tells the scammer/s on the other end they got a real number they can exploit and use to try all sorts of other scams on. The least of which will be continuing to make these calls to random people while spoofing YOUR real phone number on their caller ID's so they can look legitimate. The third concern I have here is that when I did a reverse-lookup on the number it shows as belonging to three seperate people, at least one of whom doesn't seem to have anything to do with Marriott. Fourth and final - NO legitimate business that wants to stay in business runs promotions as idiotic as randomly dialing total strangers to give them stuff.
Reported the violation to the feds. Unfortunately my telephone company doesn't offer a call blocking service so the most I could do is put the number in my directory as "Scammer" and hope they knock off calling sooner or later.
