I first got a message on my answering machine about a service verification and that they would call back. Then someone has called back; EVERY DAY for the last 3 days. There is a woman's voice saying Hello? Hello? Hello? and then it disconnects. I have an UNLISTED number so if they did not get it from me they ARE not supposed to call it. I use an answering machine that lets me literally hear the person's voice during the call so I can make sure I never pick up if I don't know who it is. If you don't pay for callerid you can get this type of answering machine for 15 dollars at Target/Walmart.
I recently subscribed to the local paper and this call, at least, was on behalf of the paper asking about delivery and my satisfaction, etc., and would I like to pay my subscription fee now. Very courteous, no problems or attempted data collection with this call at least. (It may be a service that does follow-up for any number of companies to their consumers with recent purchases.)
The BIG problem here is that they are asking if you want to pay now.....hmmmmm, sounds like fishing fior the appropriate amount of info to steal your identity!!!!! BE WARE. I also received this call but I have not recently subscribed to my local paper. That is a rouse since people are always subscribing.....they just happen to catch you at the right time!!!!
