I received a text message at 1:06 pm 4/12/09 from: Multnomah County
'We apologize to inform you that we have locked your Debit card. For fast re-activating call us now at: 18022091488'
I tried calling the number but it was a fax machine.
The message was:"We apologize to inform you that we have locked your Debit Card. For fast re-activation call us now at: 18022091488."
The MMS was received on a Sunday (Easter). So this was my first clue that it was suspicious- What government agency works on a Sunday- Especially Easter.
I immediately checked my Debit Card which was fine. So no need to call the number. I wasn't sure if this was a $500.00 /minute call or what.
