I have received the same calls, when I responded that it was illegal for them to threaten arrest they hung up. I unfortunately fell for a scam like this earlier this year. Don't fall for it.
I have also received three or four calls from this number and company and they all say the same thing, the call is about a legal matter and that I should call them back and if I don't, then the only thing they can tell me is 'good luck' because legal action will be taken against me. They never say what company they are calling from, but the one time I called them back and asked them what the call was about and what company they were, they made up a name I've never heard of. I continued to tell them that they had called me with the same message three times before and asked why were they calling me. The more I asked, I could tell they were running out of answers and getting frustrated and then they just hung up. I am going to call the office of the Attorney General of Vermont and report this number to them and these harassing calls because I am completely sick of them. I hope they can put a stop to them.
If you ever did business online, your personal identifying information was probably hacked and sold to these criminals on the black internet market.
This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
