I don't usually answer these calls but I did this one as I just got my grandson down for a nap. It was also a "local" number and I was expecting a call from a doctor's office. So I answered. Voice asked if it was me by first name. I said yes. Then he addressed me as Mrs last name. "I am called on behalf of the police association for our yearly fundraiser". Me click.
Years ago I did not realize it was scam and donated $20. When I got my bank statement I had also been charged an exchange fee for Canada! I live in Vermont. So when they called the next year I refused because of that charge. The guy had the nerve to tell me that it was because that's where their account was! I told him you have some nerve! Are you trying to tell me there are no accountants anywhere in the state of Vermont? He blustered a bit and before he could come up with an answer, I told him I knew it was a scam and I would never donate over the phone again! And hung up. This number is a Rutland Vermont exchange.
We have been getting calls from this number for a few weeks now, sometimes twice a day. We have caller ID and haven't picked up, and they never leave a message. I'm about to buy a new set of phones that will allow me to block numbers, so these sorts can no longer ring my phone.
