You meet someone online on dating website, and exchange numbers and start detecting. Later she states shes underage, and hopes it's not a problem. A day or two later, a "detective" called me first saying the dad would be bringing in the cellphone as evidence, but I should call the father first to "apologize" and see if we could work it out first. They wanted $495 for deactivation of the girl's cellphone.

I was so worried for like an entire day b/c of this... But I did call one of the SC(Columbia) police dept and they basically told me this was definitely a scam and to not worry about it.

i had the same exact thing
however the number calling from was 803-206-1326
talking about turning over evidence to detective. however if a detective wanted to talk to me they would call me and leave a message saying who they are not just call 2 times back to back.
he wanted to work things out with me and not get the authorities involved saying that if i didn't contact by 1500 on Wednesday they'll put charges against me.
however knowing the cops if they want you they'll come get you especially when your in this situation depending on state but most universal

Had a run in with the same phone numbers. Answered a Craigslist ad, with the stated age of 18. Did some texting, but after the meeting fell through I got a phone call from the "police" saying there had been a car accident. Then two days later the dad calls all angry saying I knew she was under 18, and suddenly switches from "what you were willing to do to my child" to "the car will cost $5000 to fix and insurance isn't paying for it. You'll pay the money or my wife turns you over to the cops".

This same thing just happened to me last night from the 803-216-1326 number.  I answered a craigslist add for m4m, stated age of 18.  I go to a local place because he says he wants to meet in public first.  I ask if he is coming. No reply.  A few minutes later I get a call from the SC state police saying the person has been in an accident and do I know their parent or guardian.  It is a male voice with a strong southern accident.  Weird thing is the call comes from our local police department.  I guessing the spoofed the number since it is the number listed on the website.  Thanks for the posts.

Same this just happen to me . Had cought me in a bad place in my life. She said she was 17 but i kept telling her I didnt want to do anything untill she was 18. We kept talking then she sent a sex picture no face . Longer hair . But i was dri king and started talking back . Then cought my self said sorry will have to wait untill your 18 then later after more drinks she texted back later and said hey . I she hey she said she was playing with her self and sent a video no face really poor quality . I said i wanted to see more . A hold on from her then i texted about 15 20 mins later said dont send anything i wana wait till your 18. This morning dad calls say he wants money insted of going to cops because mom wants to go to them i talked like i was going to make payments for the damages i caused from her fighting with her mom. He didnt want to meet me because hes going to south carolinia today . What should i do now .. i know i messed up i am just in a really down spot and scared shitless now .
