Call received from heavily accented man saying he was from Choice Program, a program which worked with PG&E customers to get them discounts up to. 30% off their bill.
Repeated inquires from me as to how they could do this were responded to by deflecting and avoiding any meaningful answer.
I bluntly challenged him and told him I thought he was a scammer attempting to "phish" me for personally sensitive information, ie, SSN. He tried to tell me that was not the case. Then tried to verify if I was the primary customer for the account- at which by this point I grew weary of playing cat/mouse with this obvious scammer and hung up.
I feel bad for those folks who are not aware that they are being scammed, like someone's poor grandparent trying to survive on what little they get from SSI.
Also- why do these calls always seem to be made from a room where you hear the constant dim of other foreign accented scammers sounding like they are calling from the local gymnasium- in Oxnard, of all places!!!!
The first call came from Oxnard representing PG&E they then call you from a Chicago number to give you certificate number for your discount on your gas bill..They then want to transfer you to another department for a questionnaire..This is where I think the scam is..It's probably some ridiculous toll fee. .They are persistent they called me back five times trying the same thing..I finally grew tired of them and put an end to it..

this may be the scam where they tell you to go to a website and sign up with a third-party gas supplier.
the guy at the local smoke shop (pakistani) tried this on me, but at least he gave me a free cigar.
