I think it is the outgoing phone line of IU telefund. They have a different number to call them than the number that calls you. Not positive. But pretty sure!
This number is very similiar to one that did the same to me. A strange woman's voice says "your call cannot be completed as dialed". There appears to be no listing. It has happened to me twice with two similiar numbers. 812-856-3414
Called 5-29-09 at 8:03pm, left no message. This number is similar to 2 other calls - 856-3411 and 856-3416. From the sounds of the location and other previous reports here, it's the alumni association, if I were guessing.
I got a call from this number and I am a current student at Indiana University. I worked for six months for the IU Alumni Assocation Telefund, whom is responsible for placing calls to alumni, parents and friends of Indiana University. The purpose of these calls seek to update alumni/parent/information and primarily to ask for a donation.
If you have never donated to the university, there will be a specific amount ask for, depending on the standards (ask levels) set by the management. If you have donated, how much that the caller will ask you for will depend on the last amount that you have ex.( 2x last donation [if refusal] 1.5x last donation, if refusal [1x last donation], etc.) Parents are called with the IU Parents Fund. This organization contributes greatly to IU and provides services that would not be available to all students with what is provided by tuition itself. If you have donated to IU any time in the past and are not an IU alumni nor parent, you are considered to be a 'friend'. The Telefund calls every day. If you do not respond to the call, it is likely that you will continually be called every day, although not necessarily. There have been some occsaions where we called people 46 times. If you respond by not pledging anything you are considered a 'no pledge' and will be called again within 6 months. If you donate you are considered a pledge and will be called within 6 months. If you ask to be taken off the list, you will not be contacted again by IU.
Some may recieve calls in which when answered, the other end will hang up. Often times, there exists an annoying glitch in the calling software system. Glitches sometimes detect a hang-up when the caller has not actually hung-up. It is very rare and enexceptable that a Telefund employee hang-up on a prospect. The goal is to raise as much money for the various IU programs (ex. Law, Education, Medical, Denistry, Business, COAS...) If you are an alumni that has current information with IU, within two years of your graduation you will be phoned and mailed by IU and in some way asked for money. The only thing that you can do is ask to be taken off the list, by mail, by calling or to a Telefund employee (the person who calls to solicit a contribution).
If you choose to be taknen off the calling list, you can still donate online.
Some prefer to donate over the phone. With this option one can either donate by being sent a pledge card (to be mailed back) or with a credit card. Because the university saves money by taking pledges with a credit card, the caller will almost surely, ask for a credit card if you agree to donate. If you decline using a credit card, the caller will ask again before agreeing to send a pledge card to your address. The caller might try to get you to donate at $10 higher than the level you have agreed to. If the prospect is out of country, IU will hold the calls for six months. If the prospect is deceased, upon receiving this information, IU guarantees no calls will be made. If a prospect is under hard times (health concenrs, unemployment, family emergency, separation) IU will likely ask at the lowest giving level (usally $10) after the caller is told this information. Callers are evaluated by the amount of money donated, ratio of donors to no-pledges, number of contacts (people who say either yes or no ['nos includes asking to be taken off the list),
