the woman callled me yesterday saying she was from a modleing agency and she said someone referred me. she said they were look for young models in the springfeild area, and thta she was very interested in me. i set up a meeting with her for sunday at 430 at the sheraton hotel in springfield. she then called my mother and talked her into letting me participate in this.. i guess we'll see how it goes
That is Barbizon Modeling Center. They have been around since the 1950's. What it is; your daughters probably filled out a questionaire in the mall, at school, or a friend sent her name to the agency. They are a Modeling/Acting School. They accept anyone interested, with atleast a 2.0 gpa. She doesn't have to be a doll or perfect, they are looking for models and actors of all types. The only way she will be turned down is if she is "not what they are looking for" completely childish and rude, badnews and poor grades. It cost around $1600 for 6 months. They make NO garrantees that your daughter will be a model or actor, they just give her the tools to help her get there. Just like any other school, you learn to become a model/actor. If you wanted to be a lawyer you would pay for law school, if you wanted to be a singer you would pay for voice lessons, etc. This is for anyone who wants to be a model/actor.
My daughter is going and if nothing else comes of it, she has self esteem, confidence, interviewing skills and grooming skills. It is like a charm school....all those things your daughter will learn eventually, she just learns with other girls her age. It is up to her as to how far she wants to take it. It is a foot in the door to the right direction.
With the extra confidence my daughter has learned, she is also bettering her school grades. I love it, and she is happy.
was it like a scam because they called me and i have no idea who it was. like they knew my name and everythingbut she never said anything about anyone referring me. they called a bunch of my friends too.
That's great if she likes it and is happy. But if by "foot in the door" you mean it's a way into the modeling and acting industry, you are poorly mistaken.
If you want to get into acting and or modeling you first need to get an agent or manager. One that does not require any kind of upfront fee and will take anywhere from 10% to 15% of what you make. Many people have only an agent and not a manager. Managers are good if you're not sure how to proceed. They point you in the right direction as far as pictures, acting classes, and set up interviews with agents. Sometimes a manager will also send you on an acting interview as well, they can do that but that's not really their job, that's what an agent does.
Also $1600 for 6 monthes worth of acting classes is really over priced. It's better to get an agent first and have them suggest acting classes. Some of them will do their own acting workshops with a group of their clients.
