I got a call from this number asking if I "still" owned one of my vehicles. I said "no." Then he asked "Well, what vehicle DO you now own?" I responded that I wasn't going to tell him. He said, "I have your phone number, I'm obviously not a threat." I told him, "Will you please take me off your call list?" He said, "NO!" and hung up.
Confirming the name then bailing out is a common way to get names to go along with numbers. That may fetch a higher price for telepests reselling it. Instead of saying anything, be the first to hang up if the voice is unknown, especially foreign. That's a way the caller knows who you are ahead of time.
An older-sounding woman asked for someone associated with our phone number. I answered, I'd try to reach them, and, who is calling? She ended the nuisance call. Suspect info-gathering for sale as Justin Case advises. Troublemakers, certainly.
Sounds like a debt collector looking for someone they think is associated with you--Sometimes they are; sometimes they aren't. We've had those calls. Give them nothing! Eventually they go away.
I received several calls a day from this company. I have requested multiple times to be put on the do not call list and not to contact me ever again. The representative that called me this morning at 11 said the only way he would remove my name is if I purchase the warranty. They are violating a law.
Hung up on me as soon as I told them they had the wrong number, won't stay on the line long enough to tell them not to call. Have called 5+ times over the past couple weeks, irritating.
