Thank you!
NB:You can give me a call on my US number which is roam to australia
This number is from a job inquiry that I emailed about. The man emailed back with terrible grammar and asked me for my personal information which is odd because I had sent my resume so he has all the information he needs in the attached resume.
I called the number and it was a "magicjack" number which I looked up and it said that it is a free app for people to use to call other magicjack numbers free of charge.
The job posting and this man is a scam and he needs to be reported. He said he is in Australia right now but would like me to start working and can transfer funds to my account. He also said I don't need an interview he will just go ahead and transfer 450 dollars.
The grammar, the out of country story yet the area code for this number is in Pensylvania, the want for my personal information etc is odd
I received the same message from the same scammer! So frustrating. Not sure what do with our information as however now they do have resume history and address and phone number!!! I answered a Craiglist Ad in Charleston, SC.
I received the same email, also replying to a Charleston SC craigslist ad. I have seen this scam before. If you provide your information, they send you a very realistic fake check or money order, drawn on a real account number. You will be asked to deduct your "salary" and then wire the rest of the money to him or someone he designates. When you take it to your bank, it is a real account number so the micro system does not pick up on it. It also looks very real so your bank accepts the check and issues the money to you. Several days later, when they realize that it has not cleared, you are left holding the bag to repay the check to the bank, while the scammer has already received your wire transfer of the money. No legitimate company will ever send a large sum of money to someone for working only a few hours a week and trust them on the sole basis of a good resume. Unfortunately many of these postings are scams, taking advantage of people who are desperately seeking work in this difficult economy.
People please so not cash the check he mails!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I told the police about this and they kept the check. They said that the idea behind this is that they mail you the check and them ask you to mail part of back... but the check is fake so it will bounce and then YOU are in trouble. He mailed me a check for $1450.
When I was talking to the police we discovered he contacted me on Feb. 6, via phone and email, and the check was also written on Feb, 6th. The police have the phone number, email, and check (basically all the details I could give them).
I was then looking at this website and noticed Emilie had the same thing happen to her on the same day... so clearly he does this a lot.
He told me he was in Australia on business and he would send me money to mail packages to him. He would send the packages to my house and then I would use the money to forward him his mail... bit odd.
so this is a scam and it is noted on the craigslist site also.
oh and when I told him I was going to contact a lawyer regarding the check and to not to contact me again his response was '[***] you and [***] out'... was not impressed. So clearly he is aware that he is in the wrong and mad that I reported him.
So I just want everyone to know that DO NOT CASH THE CHECK... turn it in or cut it up it and do not do anything he ask of you. Also its a cashiers check mailed in a envelope with no return address. Which is odd if he was actually running a business but makes sense he is not..he does not want you to know who he is.
He contacted both of us on the same day... Feb 6th
I got the same email and magicjack phone number.
He told me the exact same thing he told you I bet... out of the country, no interview, wants personal info.....
I was not as smart as you though and gave him personal info listed in the email.. then he mailed me a check for $1450. That's when i went to the police. The cop said that info I gave was not smart but anyone can find that online. He kept the email and the check and is filing a report. But we discovered that the email, phone he made to me, and when the check was written were all on feb. 6th.
I also contacted him and said that I would not help him and that I contacted a lawyer about the check and and his response was '[***] you and [***] out' so clearly he is not happy that I ratted him out.
