They tried to claim they are a C-3 charitable organization to be able to thawart the federal no call list. This seems like it could happen if some how these organizations are not investigated for actual purposes. The police have been asked if they have a organization that gives them charities: the answer is no. Government offical business is limited to the monies made by taxes on the local, state and federal levels. I hope someone stops these scams because some people are caring enough to write a check to a charity that would not even give them a simple tax credit. Clearly when a person gets in your face to argue about the validity of the charity, something must be wrong. When a boiler house operation is being done there is no limit to the pressure they could exert with unproven organization certificates. Who would be able to verify them? This should be illegal and the criminals want to become the friends of the police force!
Like an idiot I answered this call. It's from the Illinois Council of Police wanting donations. They said it's not tax deductable because it only helps the police. Which ones I have no clue. They called me last year from a (630) area code which was out of Lombard or Oakbrook and when I looked it up someone said it wasn't legit so I never sent them money.
