Not true. We have received legitimate calls from IRS. One such call and I refused to answer financial questions because I thought it might be a scam. Could not find anyone at the IRS office to verify this man was who he said he was. The next morning I called the number just to see if anyone would pick up. He answered and told me his boss instructed him to place a on lien on us because I refused to answer his questions even though I had told him I needed to research him to be sure he was legitimate. You would think he would understand that but NO! This was less than 24 hours later!!! He was calling about taxes we were already paying for on an installment agreement and had been for quite some time and had never missed and never been late! Then he refused to say why he had called when we were already paying installments as agreed. Jerk! That just proves they can do whatever they want to do to us and we have no recourse. I even called the main IRS number when I found that out and even she was perplexed as to why he called but could not remove the lien. She said once it's on there it will remain until the full amount has been paid. That is so unfair especially when we were doing our part!
Called just now at 1215EDT. Decided to answer. A rare "American" voice leaving a message that I may have a IRS issue and to press 9 if I want to be protected.
