These people are calling my work and my neighbors. I have explained I did not have a credit card 11 years yes ELEVEN years ago because I was going through college and could not afford one. I also stated it is not on my credit history. "Tim" stated, "We do not report this to the credit bureau we wait for a hit on your social security number when you apply for a loan then we contact you at the information provided." That sounded so fishy to me. So I am researching as to what I can do to stop them before they affect my credit score.
It sounds like a scam, fery similar to the payday loan scam being discussed in the Forums section of this board. There are a couple of very knowlegable people who have posted over there.
Ask the for proof that you owe the debt. They don't have it.
Check your credit reports every year. There are 3 agencies, I suggest you check one every 4 months, always looking for new problems.
I don't know how to make them stop harassing you, your work, and your neighbors.
They called, looking for a relative who had credit problems many years ago. If this call is like all the others, they are trying to collect old debts that are beyond the statute of limitations. I have been receiving calls like this for over 10 years. The debt collectors have received a grand total of $0, but not for lack of trying. I am not running a message or 411 service, so their satisfaction is not my problem. My standard procedure is that a second call from the same number will cause me to add it to the block list.
I just received a call from these people. They are so nasty. They called about a Shell bill that my mow deceased husband had in 1994. I in so many words told them where to go and they actually threatened me by saying I would never get credit again. I am 72 years old and on Social Security. How do we stop these people from doing this?
