I've been receiving a call for a while now asking for someone who hasn't had this number in at least four years. I've requested to be removed from their list but they keep calling. This last time I got a call but the woman hung up before I got a chance to request to be removed. Very annoying!
We have been getting calls like this on the car phone for years now. This one is from some law firm in the Valley who is doing something for the City of Los Angeles. We have no connection with the City of L.A. and I have told them this in the past. They keep calling and asking for a reference number. They never give us one so they are out of luck. They are looking for someone who had this number 8 years ago. The statute of limitations for collections in CA is 4 years. When will these calls stop? The accounts keep getting sold from one collection agent to another. We go for a couple of years without calls and then they start up again. What part of "We've never heard of this person and we don't know what you are saying" do they not understand.

This number has called me twice in the past two weeks and they called me again last year as well. They claim that I owe money to the City of L.A. for a business. I've never, ever had a business in L.A. or anywhere else, period! These people are out to scam other people out of money so watch out!
I get calls from this unscrupulous "law firm" too. However:
1) Although I did have a business in Los Angeles, my license was issued by the U.S. (federal) Government and is not subject to the local business permit process (which would violate the Supremacy Clause and the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution), and
2) I properly disputed the tax in a city hearing, and the City of LA FAILED to oppose or argue at the hearing; i.e. the city DEFAULTED at hearing and thus any tax was quashed. The tax is ZERO.
3) I have responded to this alleged "law firm" in WRITING telling them these facts (and other reasons I'm not liable, such as gross receipts under $50k - exempted per city ordinance) and asking them NOT TO CONTACT ME FURTHER. Each call from then is a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
