Received a call on my cellphone. Woman had a Filipino accent and said she was calling on behalf of Southwest Airlines. I had been selected to receive 2 round trip tickets to either San Francisco or Las Vegas with all taxes and fees paid. I had to attend their grand opening of their new office in Orange, CA and give feed back of the place. For the 2 hours of my time, they would give me the airline tickets. She then asked me for my name to reserve but before I gave it, I asked her when the event was scheduled for. I told her I could not come as I had appointments scheduled for the next 2 days. She became suspicious to me so I hung up the phone saying I wasn't interested.
Received a call from an accented "Abby," stating she was from Southwest Airlines. Suspicion kicks in immediately, but I entertain this as long as possible.
They opened a Reservation Center in Orange, CA and needed feedback; in exchange, they'd provide two roundtrip tickets, all taxes and fees included, to SF or LV. "Sounds good, riiight?" She said they also needed participants to be over the age of 25. "Sounds pretty young, riiiight?" She asked how old I was, and I told her older than 25. She pressed for an age but after another vague statement from me, she pressed on. She said they preferred couples or single ladies, asked if I was either. I gave her a non-response of "it's complicated," which seemed to confuse her. She asked me she could only extend the invitation to single women or couples, and I said, "Don't worry, I'll bring someone. I don't like showing up to these events alone." She mumbled quickly that I'm a great candidate and need to talk to her manager to finalize the details.
Before I know it, I was transferred to her accented manager, "Pamela." Pamela repeats the same spiel, saying it all "sounds good, riiiiight?" And because I sounded like such a great candidate, they'd throw in a $100 restaurant gift card, good for any restaurant in the area. She rattled off some dates and times (sounded like there were 4 going on this weekend), and asked me to pick one, right then and there. I told her I couldn't make a decision right then, and that I'd like a phone number to call back to make an appointment. She adamantly refused to give me one, saying she would just call back at a better time for me. I told her I didn't know when that was, and pressed on for a callback number.
Our exchange, almost verbatim:
"Ma'am, we can only give our number to guests with appointments to the events because it is a private number."
"You don't have a general number I can call?"
"Yes, we do, but I cannot give that out."
"You cannot give out a general number? That's ok, I'll try to look you up on Google and have someone connect me."
"Ma'am you cannot do that. We only give our number to guests with appointments."
"That's ok, I'm not inte--"
"You know what, we don't want you. Don't show up."
So I had a call on Monday, this week and a woman with strong accent was offering me southwest airline tickets with free gifts. I wasn't buying on this so I rejected. Again, I got a call again with this number so I decided to join in just to see what happens. She asks the legal name, so I gave out, then gave me the woodland hills ca address to be there by 3:00 pm. The address is 5550 TOPANGA CANYON BLVD 130
WOODLAND HILLS CA 91367 and a phone number they provided was 1-888-409-4428. They said they are located near by burbank and topanga canyon blvd. Then they asked my income and they said I need to earn more than $50000 per year but do not need any documents. i then said lower, and she tells me that again, no proof is necessary so I can lie about it. The place is called great destination, claiming center. The info That I provided was full name and my income ratio only. What is this place? Then she said a woman name Sidney will call tomorrow to make sure that I'm attending this event. I said okay then hung up and searched for the numbers and their information. Very weird. Wonder how they have gotten my name and a number.
Got a few calls from this number and I finally answered. Lady with thick Indian accent told me she was calling from Southwest airlines. When asked how she got my number she said a computer randomly calls numbers. I told her I'm on the do not call list,and since she is with an Indian call center, how did she get my number? She promptly hung up. I guess maybe I asked too many questions?
