some woman who tried to asked like she was my friend by using my name... telling me that getting in touch with me was harder than reaching the cookies on the top shelf of the cabinet!!! (and she was just a giggling thinking she was being so clever.... fyi if you aren't from the south, that is kind of a southern way of saying i was hard to reach and she was trying to make me think we knew each other when clearly we did not.... that way i would have a false sense of security but i know 828 is the asheville area code and the only people i know in that area code is my ex husband and his family so i hate them all so they messed up.... LOL) onward with the call......... asking me to give money to women for breast cancer. not for research but for them and their daily lives, like to help pay their bills, etc... and i said NO. and then she ignored that and got very silent and then said so can i count on you if i send you an envelope with the information that you will send a small amount back to the ladies and again i said NO! and this time she got very angry and she said well don't you want to help the ladies? i am just going to send you this envelope and you can just send it back with something small like $20 because i don't want to put a strain on your family or your situation but the ladies sure could use a little help (used my name like we were long lost best friends!- NOT!) so that is what i am going to do... ok.... and i again said NO... this time she got very angry with me and said so you won't help breast cancer survivors and patients who are in need of your caring support? and i said NO! not over the phone with some place i have never heard of ..... NO! and then she was very rude and hung up on me LOL!!!
i hate places that do this. so if this is a real charity that was really in need of my support and i will be researching to find out.....
UCSF UNITED CANCER SUPPORT FOUNDATION is the name that it says when i call the number back, they will be getting an email from me letting them know about this call and why i want off their call list and why they will not be getting any future support from me if they are a real organization and i will be looking into them. if they are real, this is a shame that they have volunteers that are making calls like this and if they are a scam, then i will report it accordingly as you should when you get these types of calls.
i will try and update this and let you know what this turns out to be, real charity or false charity and a scammer
I got the same spiel. Janis! You are harder to get ahold of than cookies, etc. (They have never called before). She wanted me to donate to pay for cancer screenings for women who have no insurance. "If I send you an envelope will you put some money in it to help out?" I said I work part time and my sister is unemployed so no, don't bother sending the envelope unless you are sending some money to us. Then I hung up. I didn't give her a chance to get rude.
Same deal here today. I wasn't sure whether it was a real person or a robo call with a new twist. I didn't stay on the line long enough to hear any response after I said no.
