Received a call from someone who seemed to be representing the U.S. Treasury about an "enforcement action" for a "criminal offense". It was about a 40 second message that was repeated. At the end of the message, the caller said, "I advise you to cooperate with us and help us to help you."
A very nasty threatening scam which might certainly upset more innocent or gullible people. Caller identifies himself as some adjunct to the court and tells you you may avoid appearing before a magistrate if you call him regarding some of your financial matters, I reported this one to the CT Dept. of Consumer Protection. They are contacting and will work with the California (origin of this call) Department of Consumer Protection and hopefully bring the law down on this menacing scammer. Also, the message the scammer left kept looping and filling up my answering machine - I couldn't disconnect the call until I actually unplugged the phone. Sickening.
I called the number back and he was asking person tax questions about who prepared my tax return. He said "tell me the truth be honest ". I replied that I did not believe he was with the IRs and he didn't say anything and I hung up
