More of the same old tired story! Repeated calls from this number, cid shows NPF; leaves no message. If I don 't recognize # or name, or there is no name or info, I don't answer. Grrrrrrrr
That depends on how you define "legit." Telemarketing fundraisers keep most of what they collect, so it's the least efficient way to make a donation. Also, you have to question the ethics of a "charity" that is willing to use telemarketing.
We got a call from this number today at 3:23 pm. The caller ID was BEACON NY. This is apparently a new number for these scammers, but it was blocked by our call blocker. Due to numerous such calls, it blocks all calls from area code 845. I highly recommend such a device to avoid these nuisances.
Just answered a call from these people. Number used was 208.994.0351. Fella had a east coast accent, I'm Midwest. When I stated I never heard of the org and wasn't interested, he hung up on me.
LD, the contributor who claims NPF is a "legit" charity, is technically correct as far as it goes. The message following LD is just as correct when he questions LD's use of "legit." Look up the Tampa Bay Times in your search engine and add the words "America's Worst Charities." There is a list that includes the sister charity of NPF (there's a bunch of them), the International Union of Police Associations. It's a real education and the sad part is that somehow, the AFL-CIO has some connection with this sleazy bunch. A group of "police-oriented charities" that keeps a vast majority (as in 72 to over 90%) of the money its solicitors squeeze out of naive supporters of our police. It would be a wonderful public service for the Florida AG's office and/or the DOJ to really dig into this Sarasota outfit. As an old union hand, shame on you AFL-CIO!!!
