I just got a call where they claimed to be the IRS. It was a recorded woman's voice that did sound like the phone system of the IRS.
If the IRS needed to speak with you someone would be on the phone and not ask you to call back at this 847.201.2751 phone number.
The IRS Criminal Division surely would have sent mail regarding the investigation if one existed and I was needed to be contacted.
Also there are things called Accountant Tax Agents. These are CPAs who are given limited power of attorney. This means the IRS must communicate with them regarding anything with your taxes. The IRS is not allowed to call or just show up at your door. If there truly was a criminial investigation, at some point the IRS will notify your CPA, The Tax Agent. Then the CPA would contact you for discussion.
I state the above because of the other reports on the internet about this kind of call, I feel that the phone call is fake. After getting my stress out on this forum, I'll relax now.
