These people in Palatine Ill need to be stopped and only by filing a massive lawsuit will this ever happen. They are going out and somehow obtaining bad debts that are well beyond the statute of limitations and making them look like the original debtor has refiled for collection once again.....which can not happen. They prey on the ignorance of innocent people....so beware if you get a letter from them, immediately contact your State Attorney General's Office and the contact your BBB office and perhaps even the FBI as if it goes over a certain limit, it becomes a Federal offense I believe.
I received a call from them for my son who hasn't lived here in several years. I didn't even finish listening to the call I just erased it. Asset Recovery was sued in 1996 for illegal practices. They were known then as Financial something or other, and after they got into trouble, changed their name to Asset Recovery. Same ole dog, different name. So if they call and try to collect old debts, file a complaint and then talk to an attorney about a possible lawsuit.
During this time of economic disaster, if Obama wanted to do anything, he would stop these collection companies from trying to collect debts that people don't have the money to pay. I'm sure the bankruptcy rate has risen drastically in the past year or so because of this. We, as unemployed consumers, who can't help our unemployment status (and believe me when I say even WalMart and McDonald's have quit hiring around here) we need some kind of protection from these preying vultures.
